Seriously, would they have to abandon their socialist programs and start spending money on defense instead? How would they protect themselves against the Soviet threat or the Chinese threat or the North Korean threat or the Iranian threat or the Iraqi threat?
It must be nice having another country foot the bill for your defense, so that you can spend all the money on socialized medicine and socialized universities? It would also be nice if you remembered to thank us once in a while!

For one Canada has it’s own military 2. Last i remember the U.S hasn’t won any wars where they were the primary fighter. I.E Korea Vietnam Iraq Afghanistan. Don’t be jealous troll just go on having no money and being trillions of dollars in debt.By the way last time I checked those countries you mentioned were mad at the U.S cause the u.s runs around policing the world and every one who doesn’t believe the u.s Propaganda of how people should live. You’re proof of that.

There is no country in the world (other than the United States) has any hope of invading Canada. The United Kingdom was hard pressed to move even 15,000 troops to the South Atlantic and supply them for four months to take over a tiny group of islands. China has no assault ships, only one landing ship, and nothing bigger than a destroyer in its entire navy. It has no hope of even moving troops across the Pacific and supplying them let alone putting enough troops there to have any hope of holding even a tiny island. It took a half-million troops to hold Iraq — a country only 1/20th the size of Canada. Even China couldn’t get 5,000 troops to Canada.
Canada has nothing to fear from the rest of the world. The only times NATO is used has been outside of North America and the only time NORAD was used in an actual, it was Canadians protecting the United States.
Canada’s defense is joined at the hip to America’s defense. They contribute a great deal.
Examples:
NORAD is a joint effort between the US and Canada.
Canadians deploy with American troops every time American forces leave the country.
Canada is involved with American military activities more often than NATO.
canada has their own professional military. the long border with the u.s. is probably a benefit to both countries, defense wise. they share and patrol a lot of similar coast line. canada buys american arms, but not always. it,s convenient when the cf/a-18 plane factory is a short flight from canada. there is no soviet threat. kind of a good thing for both countries, aye?
Where do you get the idea that the US “foots the bill” for Canada’s defence? They don’t. We have our own military and the US contributes absolutely nothing financially to Canada’s defence.
Your question is moot since the US does NOT provide Canada’s defence.

They would be less of a target as Canada does not interfere in other country’s foreign affairs and by default get branded as a supporter of the US for their alliance.

Canada has a very professional army. They have the capability to hold back any attacks just as much as the US is.
