Recent Suicides In The Military?

By admin Posted in: chinese treatment

I’ve noticed that there were 301 suicides in the military in 2010, the record high in one year. Some cases that were relieved had to do with strong and unnecessary racial discrimination. The Stars and Stripes article stated the ‘punishment’ the black man had to endure for little mistakes, and the Chinese teen who committed suicide for his **** treatment like being dragged up some stairs. Is it because too many delinquents are being let into the military? That’s all I can assume at this point. This matter makes be think twice about joining the military for I too am Asian. I also feel that the military itself is falling apart in its own way. I’ve wanted to become a Marine for some time now, so I have an idea of what it’ll be like. Just really, this is ******* ridiculous. **And if you’re going to be a smartass with no actual advice, then don’t answer, you’d be wasting your time.

Well Phillip I think that is some of it. The Army especially up until a year or so ago was letting all kinds of low life’s in with a prior history of all sorts of things and even the Marine Corps also to a lesser extent.
The other part of this is the stress that the multiple deployments have really placed on all the military and in particular the Army and Marine Corps. Being deployed and embedded with them several times I would see it and its hard on people. Anything from marital to financial problems, people wondering if their kids would even talk to them when they would eventually get home, the living conditions in a lot of the places people were deployed to, the restrictions they have to live with and endure just because you are in a country different than your own culturally and this is just for starters. You toss in the stress and hazards of combat and seeing someone lose their life or more than one of your mates lose his life or getting hurt or shot up and having to worry about the same thing maybe happening to you can be really hard. You will sometimes even get physically sick from some of this even so you know its got to be affecting the way you look at and interpret things and that does not just stop after coming home.
One thing I can tell you though about the military in general and that is that it is the way you carry yourself and do your job and treat others that you work with that will garner respect more than anything else. Will you encounter some bad apples-probably but you will encounter them in the civilian world also. The military is in some ways just a smaller segment of society really. If you are a good Marine, soldier, seaman, or airman it won’t make a difference what color you are to most so I would not let that stop me if I was considering the military.

Suicide rates are where they were before 9/11
The suicide rate dropped significantly after 9/11 in the military
It has now climbed back to where it has historically been.
    2. But, what the media will not report
is over 70% of the suicides in the military, are by service members who have NEVER deployed
Another 15% are by those who only deployed once.
    3. of course the media wants you to believe that multiple deployments are the cause of military suicides, that’s why they always fail to report the actual data.
    4. People in the military commit suicide, for the exact same reasons everyone else do, mainly family and money issues.

    Deficiencies in National healthcare standards.
USA military is both capable and responsible for those standards, and eventually they will respond–which I am really looking forward to.

In short and in British….Piss Off…you are SO clueless about the history of it, who does it and why it is not worth any time of mine….time you could put in easy enough just using the search line you south end of a northbound horse….WE shall also overlook the fact that the rate in the military is lower than the corresponding age group of civilians in the US, that more have NOT ever been deployed than have.
Get off you dead a$$ and do some more research and then come in here and ask a more intelligent question NOT intended to piss people off.
    Bet you cannot do that!

Most of the suicides have to do with the pressures of wartime duty and not enough time for recovery after deployment before going on another one. The military is working hard to reduce the suicide rate.
As for the discrimination aspect, you cite two individual cases in which racism is thought to have been a contributing factor. The military, as an organization is actually less racist than the rest of society. there are more black generals than black CEOs (which is about equivalent in stature of an organization in terms of responsibility).
What do you mean by falling apart? If you think the suicide rate is reason for not joining, then do not join. But it really is not a big factor in the quality of the life you choose to lead in the military. Please note the word “choose.”
