I am studying alternative medicine and I have seen the description come up more than once… It just seems kind of vague. I was wondering if anyone knew, specifically, what the repertoire of an energist includes and how they differ with a Reiki Master or any other person that deals with aligning and balancing energies.

I beieve this is another term for an energy healer. This can be any sort of energy healing, including but not limited to Reiki, light touch, healing touch, healing meditation, possibly EFT, sound and vibrational healing.
Probably someone who manipulates Universal Life Force Energies for healing purposes, as in Reiki, therapeutic touch, energy healing, etc.
Of course it’s complete bunk; for one they are misusing the term ‘energy’ which is a measurement of a system’s capacity to do work; secondly no such ‘healing energy’ has ever been detected or measured but apparently special people are able to do manipulate it; thirdly there is no theoretical or biophysical plausibility for ‘energy healing’; and lastly no ‘energy healing’ modality has ever been demonstrated to work beyond placebo response in valid clinical testing.
If such energy existed, how is it known it is ‘healing’ only? How do we know that its not doing any harm. Well it doesn’t matter because its rubbish, and that’s why it sounds vague to you, why it remains in the realm of alternative medicine and why it is considered quackery. ‘Energist’ is quack terminology.
I would be putting these questions to the teacher if I were you, and possibly asking for my money back.
