i knowing lying on the census is illegal but can you get away with lying about race?
Do they have a set in stone way of dealing with race? Like if you look black you must mark “black”.
Or is it based on what you “feel” you are through self identity?
for example if you are black but with some white blood, and you identify as white and black.
or if you are Vietnamese but you want to say you are white/French and asian.
or if you are white and you want to say you are white and chinese.
or may if you want to say you’re black…
whatever the case might be are people able to just get away with this if they want to? or are they questioned about it?

Yes, it is very possible that you can get away with it.
You wouldn’t be questioned about it(I don’t think) and you would get away with it.
It’s not looked after as if they are on the search for someone lying about their race.
It doesn’t matter if you FEEL you are a black man trapped in a white man’s body, or any other combo. What matters is what visible minority that people identify you with. They expect you to answer honestly and to the best of your ability.
Question 19 from the Canada Census 2006 asked about race. Only some were listed, with a spot for people to write in an alternate race. This question is used to provide racial demographics that help various ethnic groups obtain funding for various social programs. If no one identifies themselves as “Latin American”, then perhaps the government does not need to print up any copies of their forms to make them available in Spanish. If they see a large amount of Filipino responses, perhaps the Government of Canada provides additional funds to their embassy in Manila to handle potential family members asking for immigration.
If you are of mixed Black and Chinese heritage, then you have the option of writing that in under “Other – Specify”. Keep in mind that if you don’t identify as a particular race, your answers would all be classified in the statistics gathered as “Other”.
