Alternative To Nuetering?

My mom has a dog, just a mix breed of who knows what lol anyways he is allergic to the medicine used to knock a dog out during surgery…..is there anyway to fix him?? we dont want him running around reproducing!!!!!!

Has your mom looked into finding a vet that uses Isoflurane gas instead of the injection anesthesia?

First of all “How do you know it is allergic?” Has the dog had surgery or been put under before? Also, there are different types of anesthesia so there may be one that it is not allergic too. The best thing would be to ask a vet. If it is allergic to the ingredients in one type of anesthesia then they maybe able to use another type that does not have the same ingredients. Definitely have it altered because there are too many unwanted puppies and dogs as is!

Well, why not pretend your area has a confinement law and don’t let your dog run loose through the neighborhood. Take him out on a leash and/or build a secure dog run. People are able to contain their intact dogs all over the world. If you act like a responsible dog owner then your dog will not reproduce.

There are a wide variety of sedatives and anesthesias. It isn’t that he is allergic to being anesthetized its a specific drug allergy. I agree that isoflourane is the best route to go. By the way has he been operated on before? What is the basis of knowing he’s allergic?

There are different types of anesthesia used. What he is allergic to is obviously something to stay away from, however a different type of anesthesia could work just fine. Talk to your veterinarian. Your dog can still be neutered.

There is a new drug out that does chemical castration.
EDIT- The drug is called Neutersol .
Here is information about it, it is apparently FDA approved in the states.http://www.petplace.com/dogs/chemical-ne…

Keep him confined. In the house or in a fenced in backyard. Or both. Always keep him on a leash. Maybe use 2 fences because dogs can and will mate through a fence.
